First out of the gate with a 1080p 22-incher is Iiyama. Priced at just under £150, you won't be surprised to learn that the ProLite E2208HDS is based on good old TN panel technology. At this price point, there is no alternative.

It's also no surprise that there isn't much in the way of features included with the E2208HDS. Connectivity is limited to just DVI, VGA and 3.5mm audio inputs. What's more, the DVI connection doesn't include support for HDCP, which is a pretty big oversight for a display advertised as "Full HD" because as soon as you try to play protected high-definition media content, you're going to be left short changed.
But it's also understandable given the sub-£150 asking price - it was clearly designed to a cost and not with a list of checkbox features in hand. Further evidence of this is highlighted by the lack of adjustability on the E2208HDS, as it includes only tilt adjustment - there's no chance of configuring the height or orientation of the screen without a bit of initiative.

The 3.5mm line in is for the E2208HDS's embedded stereo speakers – there is no 3.5mm audio out for headphone connectivity unfortunately. Rated at just 1W each, the speakers are nothing special at all – they're tinny and lack depth, but that's something we've come to expect of build-in monitor speakers. They're passable for the most basic of usage models.
Finally, the coarse finish applied to the plastic bezel feels rough and ready, giving the impression of a cheap monitor - some may not be bothered about this when they factor in the price, but it could be a complete turn off for others. Overall then, the Iiyama E2208HDS doesn't do a lot wrong, but because it's designed to cost, it was never going to blow us away.
